The Chain Gang: Unusual Chains & Links

This workshop focuses on strategies for making unique chains and linkages. From classical to funky, a wide range of chain styles will be demonstrated and explained. Students will make samples and experiment with a variety of fused, cold-connected, and soldered link chains. Knowledge of jewelry soldering is helpful.

Day One: History of chains, making links, sawing packets vs. cutting packets, cold connections, chainmaille, fusing demo, soldering tips and tricks.

Day Two: Design discussion, combining chain with pearls, beads and found objects, independent work time, chain design, x/y axis.

BIO: Paulette Werger is a metalsmith and teacher who works in Lebanon, NH. She sells her work both nationally and internationally and is owner of Metalpeople East, a jewelry and hollow ware studio. She has taught metalsmithing at the University of WI, Montana State University, and at craft schools throughout the country. Paulette serves as trustee for the Society of Arts and Crafts and is a former board member of SNAG.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
