  2. Demonstrate the ability to effectively use various kinds of lapidary machinery.
  3. Become aware of some of the raw materials that can be used for lapidary.

Whether you are a beginner or have previous lapidary experience you are sure to have fun and learn something new in this workshop.

From Keith:

As a Lapidary with thirty-five years of gemstone cutting experience I am still amazed and passionate about the artistic process of turning rocks and minerals found in nature into beautiful works of wearable art.  My stones are clean, elegant shapes that I create by letting the rough material speak to me and then allowing each stone’s uniqueness to come forth.  My stones have been incorporated into the jewelry pieces of jewelry artists around the world.

My other Lapidary passion is conveying my craft to others through quality instruction.  I started the Lapidary program at Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ ten years ago.  Each semester I teach 2 Introduction to Lapidary Courses and an Advanced Lapidary Course. In addition to the college classes I teach workshops to small groups and to individuals who want personalized instruction.  It gives me great satisfaction to know I have taught over 600 students to enjoy Lapidary Art!
Beginning students learn the basic methods of correct gem stone selection and how to safely use Lapidary equipment to saw, grind sand and polish gemstones into jewelry quality cabochons.  Advanced students learn to work with exotic gemstone rough material, create matched pairs of stones and work with textured surfaces.  My goal in teaching is always for the student to have fun while learning to be a successful creator of Lapidary Art.
