Two longtime metalsmiths will team teach this info packed workshop covering approaches used separately in their work. Techniques include stone forming and inlay as well as soldering metal laminates including mokume. See various ways of forming bezels and settings; use of laminated surface patterns and textures by etching with ferric chloride; forming demos with wire techniques associated with blacksmithing, forging and a twist which goes back to the Celts. Chain and catch reviews will be covered as well as instruction on using computer generated images with etching.

BIO: Rumor has it that Joe cut his teeth on a jewelers saw - an early maker, innovator and teller of tall tales since the age of six. Joe and Betty Harris are long standing metalwork icons in the Southwest, teaching sculpture, jewelry and basic design first at Tucson Museum of Art's School then in the late 1970s (until Betty recently retired) at Pima Community College West Campus Jewelry Department for over 30 years. There have been regular sighting of the Harrises at the  Yuma Symposium since it's birth. They have also taught at Maker and other workshop venues. Betty and Joe have been part of the movers and shakers at Society for North American Goldsmiths Conferences over the years and have exhibited their work at many venues nationally and internationally.
